Troop 16 Tours Howe Caverns & Baseball Hall of Fame

Livingston Boy Scout Troop 16’s June camping trip included a guided tour of Howe Caverns in up-state N.Y.  The tour included a 1.5 hour, 2.5 mile walk along an underground river which carved out the caverns  150 feet below ground.  The tour also included a round trip boat ride on the narrow river within the caverns. The scouts observed the different rock formations and rock colors due to different minerals within the rock formations, a wedding chapel formed within the caverns, and the return path which lead us through a very narrow 18 inch wide clevis in the rock. After the tour the scouts cooked lunch at the picnic area, and then headed for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.  After a short movie about America’s favorite pass time the scouts toured the museum participating in a fact finding Scavenger Hunt. 

Now it’s time to travel to Boy Scout Camp Henderson which is about ½ hour from Cooperstown. The scouts set-up their tents, and then cooked their dinners on their camp stoves. The scouts ate their dinner on picnic tables under an open air shelter next to the camp lake. Sunday morning the scouts reflected on their experiences, broke camp and returned home to Livingston.
