Troop 16 Concludes Successful Week at Camp Turrell

Twelve scouts, accompanied by Mr DeFilippo and Mr Sheehan, spent the week of July 13, 2014 at Camp Turrell.

Despite a few rainy days in the beginning of the week, the troop managed to complete a total of 41 merit badges.

In addition, during the week the boys worked on completing a gateway with a revolving door and maintaining a neat campsite.  A neat campsite was important as "Dave" the bear wandered in and out of various campsites during the week, but was never seen in Troop 16's site.

Seven boys participated in the Pathfinder program and slept Wednesday night under the stars. They also worked on many rank requirements and earned their Totin' Chips and Firem'n Chits.

The water carnival took place Friday afternoon. Troop 16 held its own in the various competitions and had a fun time participating.  Friday evening the troop performed the Passing Gas skit which for some good laughs from the audience.

Also during the Friday campfire, the camp awards were handed out.  Troop 16 won more awards than any other troop:

- Gene Lu won the camp-wide chess tournament.

- Ian Hurrel, Nirav Patel, Alexander DeFilippo, Mr Sheehan and Mr DeFilippo received certificates for participating in the polar bear club.

- The troop won the Best Gateway award.

- The troop won Outstanding Campsite award from the camp commissioner for the site's cleanliness.

- The troop earned the Baden Powell award for exemplifying the scouting spirit.

- The troop won an award for placing third in the water carnival.

All in all it was a great week! Congratulations to all the boys for all their hard work.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back at camp next year for Week 2 - 7/5/15 - 7/11/15.
